Following a major recent facelift by iconic designer Philippe Starck, Paris’ Le Royal Monceau Hotel has recently reopened and is more luxurious, stylish and sophisticated than ever. The hotel closed down two years ago following a wild Dionysian “demolition party” that saw the city’s most glamorous and famous booze and break every valuable fixture in sight. Contrasting surrealist chic with elegant restraint, Starck has nonetheless managed to find the right balance between both elements within this regal and storied hotel.

Luxury

Frequently listed within the top five hotels in the world and considered to be the Four Seasons Group’s premier global hotel, expect opulent over-the-top decor and exceptional service (including quintessentially Parisian maids with white aprons and lacy caps - oohlala). The palatial Four Seasons George V is the epitome of classical French grandeur and luxury, with private terraces that command spectacular views of Paris’s Eiffel Tower and other beautiful landmarks. The 245 guest rooms are wonderfully spacious (a bonus in this city) and are luxuriously appointed in the style of Louis XVI.

L'Hotel

Historic

This is one hotel where when they say, ‘no two rooms are the same’, they truly mean it. L'Hotel's rooms are so vastly different that they seem to belong to separate hotels, or even continents. As the hotel of choice and final residence of Oscar Wilde for many years, L’Hotel’s legendary Oscar Wilde room features a traditional English style complete with the original letters from the L’Hotel staff urging him to settle his hotel bill (which he unfortunately didn’t live to do). However our favourite is the Pagode suite with sumptuous Japanese antiques and intricate furnishings.

Hotel Joyce

Affordable

Usually the words "Paris" and "Great Value Accommodation" don't usually go in the same sentence, however we've recently discovered a fantastic Parisian boutique hotel, the Hotel Joyce, which offers chic designer living spaces, highly affordable prices (starting from €117 per night) and a central location in Paris' eclectic 9th arrondissement. The Hotel Joyce is centrally located and within walkable distance from the winding streets of Montmartre. While the boutique hotel’s services are kept to a minimum, most of the effort has been focued upon the chic 44 unique bedrooms and casually cool public spaces.

Detox

Hotel Gabriel is Paris’s unique 40-room “detox” hotel, a boutique with a unique concept and a belief in the restorative powers of a calming hotel stay. Wedged in a corner of the trendy Marais, and a short walk from the hip, young Oberkampf nightlife area, the hotel occupies a rigorously restored 1925 townhouse. Hotel Gabriel's rooms shut out the noise and hubbub of central Paris by offering a soothing lighting system, health foods, state-of-the-art mattresses, and hi-tech electronic audiovisual machines that stimulate Melatonin secretion to help ease you into a deep sleep.

Parisian interior designer, Sybille de Margerie, has taken inspiration from great periods of time that have shaped the city of Paris.

Edgy

What do you get when legendary designer Philippe Starck, the co-founding brothers of Club Med and a famous French philosopher join forces? An ultra-hip, cool hotel called Mama Shelter. In stark contrast (no pun intended) to the typical Parisian conservative hotels, the Mama Shelter has a bold and electric vibe, seriously fun public spaces and refreshingly affordable prices for Paris. Although its located on the outskirts of Paris’ city centre in a fairly nondescript area, as with all of Starck’s ventures, hip public spaces take centre stage with chalk written messages scrawled all over the ceilings.

Le Citizen Hotel

Budget Chic

Le Citizen is a fresh new independent boutique hotel looking onto the "bobo" (bohemian-bourgeois) hangout of the Canal St Martin on Paris’ Right Bank. This reasonably priced, pocket sized hotel has just twelve rooms, ranging from the cosy “City” double to the spacious “Zen” suite and even the penthouse-like Citizen Appartment which can house a group of friends or a family in its two bedrooms and sofa-bed equipped lounge. All rooms are equipped with flat screen televisions and four-star quality bedding as well as attentive touches such as an iPad and filtered water.
