As one of New York's best cocktail mixologists at New York’s world famous Death & Co cocktail bar, bartender Joaquin Simo shares with us his favourite places to eat and drink in New York:
BEST RESTAURANTS "I would definitely have to say Frankie 457 restaurant which is actually here in Brooklyn. Very comfortable very rustic Italian food and homemade pastas. Very simple dishes such as cavatelli pasta with sausage, brown butter and sage - it’s very simple but always truly satisfying. Ippudo is also a sure favourite of mine. It’s a little Japanese ramen joint. We also had an absolutely decadent dinner at Corton which was really, really wonderful. I know a couple of guys that work in the kitchen there and they were sending out some additional courses for us - they did not fear butter or cream and they were liberal in their application of all of these things. 2.30am and have 36 oysters brought to your table along with orders of fried chicken, foie gras and bone marrow - those are the things that always make me the happiest.
BEST BARS I love Milk & Honey cocktail bar. I think it’s one of the most special cocktail experiences. There’s something really beautiful about walking through the curtains there within this tiny, hushed and narrow room with tall ceilings and the most impeccable hospitality in the city. Their size and their scale really allows them to lavish a lot of attention upon their customers, and allows them to get away with not having a menu. I also love the Clover Club in Brooklyn. It’s one of my favourite Sunday brunch spots. Go there, get a proper blood & sand or a corpse survivor. There’s a raft of other fun little spots such as Rye House and Raines Law Room which are on the same block and are both lovely. However, old stalwarts like Little Branch and Employees Only are never going to fade in quality.”
