With only 5 tables and 12-seats to its name, Il Ridotto is one of Venice’s most intimate fine dining spaces. Tucked away in a quiet spot behind the Doge’s Palace in Piazza San Marco, prepare yourself for an impressive show as Il Ridotto’s charming host, Gianni Bonnacorsi, takes on the challenge of being the restaurant’s chef, the waiter and the sommelier as required. This is the type of place where you need to arrive with time on your hands, where diners settle in for a long and highly enjoyable dining experience of creative seasonal Italian cuisine, exquisite wines and intimate conversation. If you’re looking for a quick and casual meal then this is definitely not the place for come. Expect delicious flavours such as cuttlefish ink tortelli stuffed with minced sea bass served on a bed of seafood ratatouille, or a trio of tartares with salmon, mullet and red prawns. While at times the service may be a little slow while Gianni is working his magic in the kitchen, take your time to admire the superb wine list and sample a glass or two while you wait. Closed Wednesdays and Thursday for lunch.
