Jishi Jiujia

  • Chinese

Renowned as one of the best places for authentic Shanghainese cuisine in the city, Jishi Jiujia restaurant (otherwise known as ‘Jesse’) is a simple and intimate local eaterie which is perennially packed due to its hearty and flavoursome local cuisine. Jishi offers a menu in English--still relatively incomprehensible yet a huge help compared with the Chinese menu--with a myriad of regional dishes to introduce you to the best of local Chinese cuisine. Begin the Jishi journey with some fuzhu tofu skin with mushrooms, tangcu paigu sweet and sour spare ribs, and jiang luobo radish pickled in soy sauce. Continue on with the hongshao rou he zhusun red-braised pork with bamboo shoots, xiefen fenpi crab with vermicelli sheets, and the congbao yutou fish covered in scallions. It’s best to come with a group so that you can order as many dishes as possible and share. While delving into the depths of Chinese cuisine--a nationality renowned for its proclivity to eat everything from fish eyes to chicken feet and everything in between--this is the place to come and explore your culinary adventurous side. With several locations around Shanghai, our favourite is the original restaurant located at 41 Tianping Road, Shanghai. Advance reservations advised.
