The five-star Selenza Hotel is housed in a refurbished 19th-century building in Madrid's trendy Salamanca district, close to the iconic Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums. The 44-room boutique hotel prides itself with personalized service, including the concierge who can offer you some of the hardest-to-find seats. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with elegant fabrics, and in a contemporary fashion, something of a shock if you judge the hotel from its conservative outer façade. An indulgent spa, 24-hour laundry and dry cleaning services, a pillow menu for the finicky, and a small but impeccably decorated meeting room for private events are some of the more notable amenities offered. Chef Ramon Freixa’s in-house, one Michelin star restaurant serves wonderful Mediterranean food in an elegant dining room, and a tapas bar in the courtyard that serves some delicious drinks and snacks.
