In Copenhagen, dramatic modern architecture blends artfully with ancient buildings throughout the city. Some of our favourite landmarks include the following places:
1. The Black Diamond (Den Sorte Diamant) - As one of the most eye-catching modern buildings on Copenhagen’s waterfront, this building was completed in 1999 by Danish architects Bjarne Hammer, Kim Holst Jensen, Morten Holm & Morten Schmidt as an extension of the Royal Library, hosting an impressive collection of over 4.5 million books.
2. The Opera House (Operaen) - Seating over 1,700 people and playing host to the city’s best opera, musical & cultural performances, the Opera House was designed by Henning Larsen & is one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful modern structures. Dominating the waterfront views of Copenhagen’s central canal, the incredible sculptures within the foyer even change colour according to the weather.
