Picknick was transformed from a seedy squat in the unkempt remains of a vacant brick lot to one of the most influential nightclubs in Berlin. Greeted by a wide front courtyard, the well-dressed party-goers are led into two snug dance floors, one for electro lovers and the other for indie-pop fans. If you’re tired of dancing or feeling claustrophobic, head to the patio area in back, where friendly, young Berliners embrace the gritty, vaguely industrial feel of the place. The owners, Bjorn and Tanja, also run a supercool design shop nearby, which might explain how the parties at Picknick are so plugged in.
