That imperial character comes from its first owner, a wealthy lawyer to Kaiser Wilhelm II, and its modern face lift was supervised by acclaimed fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in the early 1990s. Guestrooms are simple but masculine, tastefully decorated in shades of greys and discreet colors, while public spaces go all out in opulence and extravagance. Rooms feature free WiFi, a DVD library, flatscreen TV, Tivoli radios, free minibar and water, and Bulgari/Aesop bath products. There is also a spa and Turkish baths for guests to relax. Invite associates or friends for a dinner at the Vivaldi restaurant which is sure to impress: surrounded panelled walls and high, gold-painted ceilings as though you’re in the midst of a richly decorated ballroom.
