El Xampanyet

  • Wine Bars

This loud, boisterous and raucous Barcelona bodega is one of the most popular local hangouts for inexpensive tapas and local Spanish cava (sparkling wine). Tucked away in a cobblestone laneway in the Barri Gotic district, you’ll find everyone from trendy hipsters to aging locals crammed into the intimate space. El Xampanyet (“The Champagne”) is all about great local cava sold by the bottle, along with an impressive Spanish wine list and delicious tapas bites. The decor is an eclectic mix of antiques mixed in with blue tiled walls and marbled tables, and bottles adorn every available inch of the wall space. Tucked away on a narrow, cobblestone alley close to the Picasso Museum, El Xampanyet has been perfectly described as where “old meets new, trendy meets trusted - the Spanish psyche itself”. The younger locals tend to come here before the late night club scene kicks off, while the older local crowd tend to drop-in for a pre-dinner dinner drink and never leave. No bookings.
